Shehu Sani Warns Of Foreign Airlines’ Plot Against Air Peace On International Routes
Former Kaduna Central Senator, Shehu Sani, has sounded the alarm, revealing that foreign airlines are making concerted efforts to oust Air Peace from international routes. In a post on X, Sani urged Nigerians to throw their weight behind local airlines, particularly Air Peace, to counter the onslaught from foreign carriers. He emphasized that continued patronage of Nigerian airlines would serve as a deterrent to the predatory tactics of their foreign counterparts.
Sani explained that the motive behind the foreign airlines’ strategy is to undercut Air Peace until it becomes economically unviable for them to operate on international routes. Once Air Peace is driven out, these foreign carriers would revert to monopolistic pricing, reinstating exorbitant airfares for travelers.
The warning from Sani comes amid Air Peace’s recent expansion into international operations, notably its flight service from Nigeria to London’s Gatwick Airport initiated in March. However, Allen Onyema, the Chairman of Air Peace, has raised concerns about alleged collusion among foreign airlines operating on the Nigeria-UK route. Onyema accused these carriers of forming an “unspoken alliance” aimed at driving Air Peace out of the market through predatory pricing tactics.
As Air Peace faces this uphill battle against foreign competition, Sani’s call for support underscores the importance of safeguarding the interests of indigenous airlines. The success of Air Peace and other local carriers on international routes is not only vital for the growth of Nigeria’s aviation industry but also for ensuring fair competition and affordable air travel for Nigerian passengers.
