The Chairman of Ishielu LGA, Mrs. Ifeoma Agwu, confirmed that evacuation of victims’ bodies was still ongoing, with the exact casualty figure yet to be determined. “We are currently transporting the bodies to the mortuary. More details will be provided later,” she stated.

Prof. Ndubuisi Idenyi, a community member, reported that several people were killed and injured, with homes set ablaze. Another source revealed that tensions escalated following the killing of cows in the forest by members of the Eastern Security Network (ESN). Despite efforts by stakeholders to prevent an attack, the assailants invaded the community, wreaking havoc.

Among the victims were a Pentecostal pastor and an evangelist.

This attack follows a similar incident on Christmas Day 2024, when suspected herdsmen raided Yaav and Mbakyol council wards in Benue State, killing over 12 people and abducting seven children.

In another tragic event, 13 people lost their lives in Azege, Benue State, on November 24, 2024, when heavily armed attackers stormed the settlement, destroying farmlands. Authorities continue to investigate and have vowed to bring the perpetrators to justice.

Residents are calling for urgent government intervention and improved security measures to restore peace and prevent further violence.
