The harrowing incident unfolded in the early hours of Saturday, February 17, as the assailants, numbering over 100 and riding motorcycles, descended upon the villages of Dekko, Lama, and Monkin. In their wake, they left a trail of chaos, with many villagers sustaining gunshot wounds as they attempted to flee to the safety of the mountains.

Confirming the attack, Taraba State Police Command’s spokesperson, SP Usman Abdullahi, revealed that details were still forthcoming, as authorities awaited information from the Divisional Police Officer overseeing Zing LGA.

The abducted individuals, a list of whom has been disclosed, include not only the esteemed Catholic priest, Rev. Cletus Baleri, but also community members such as Ceto Alfred, Bege Mark, Felix Shawulu, and others. The sheer audacity and scale of the attack have plunged the region into a state of shock and fear, highlighting the urgent need for decisive action to combat such brazen criminality.
