Terrorist Attack In Zamfara Town Claims Lives Of Three Palace Officials
Zurmi, the second most populous town in Zamfara State, Nigeria, fell victim to a terrorist raid led by gang leader Isyaku Majo. The assailants targeted the palace of the Emir of Zurmi, resulting in the tragic deaths of three palace officials and the abduction of several residents, including the Emir’s chief details, Buhari Yusuf……READ ALSO Terrorists Strike: Eight Vigilantes Kills, Two Village Heads Abducted In Kaduna
The terrorists, numbering over 150 and riding motorcycles, launched the assault with the intention of abducting Emir Muhammadu Suleiman. However, the timely intervention of stationed soldiers thwarted their plans.
Reports indicate that the terrorists vandalized an MTN communication facility in Zurmi to disrupt communication and hinder security reinforcement. Eyewitnesses recounted the harrowing scene as the attackers mercilessly killed three people at the palace gate and abducted three others, including the Shamaki and two residents.
The motive behind the attack stemmed from accusations against the Emir of indifference to the alleged maltreatment of Fulani residents by local vigilantes. Isyaku Majo, in a video posted on Facebook, claimed responsibility for the attacks, demanding an end to the persecution of Fulani people in the area.
The abducted Shamaki, Buhari Yusuf, pleaded with the Emir to address the grievances of the Fulani community and halt the violence against them. This incident unveils the deep-seated tensions in Zurmi, exacerbated by historical disputes and recent events, including the deposition of the former Emir over alleged links with bandits.
The current Emir’s perceived distance from the Fulani community adds complexity to the situation, highlighting the urgent need for reconciliation and enhanced security measures to restore peace and safeguard the lives of residents in Zurmi.
