In an exclusive statement to Punch on Friday in Abuja, NBS spokesperson Joel Ichedi dismissed rumors that the website had been permanently shut down. He reassured Nigerians that efforts were underway to resolve the issue, and the site would be back online shortly.

On December 18, 2024, the NBS website was compromised by hackers, just days after the bureau launched a newly redesigned site. The breach was quickly made public via the agency’s official X (formerly Twitter) account. Following the attack, the NBS urged citizens to ignore any information from the site until further notice.

Ichedi explained, “The website will be up soon. I’ve spoken with the team in charge, and they are still working on resolving the issue. They are investigating the cause and looking at it from every angle to determine if the new design played a role. It’s important to note that we also had an extended holiday period. Rest assured, the website will be operational shortly.”

He further emphasized, “Such an important website can’t be shut down forever. We are committed to resolving this, and it will be back soon.”
