The Ship Is Going Down! – Ugochinyere Blasts PDP Leadership Over Party’s Decline

Ikenga Ugochinyere, the House of Representatives member representing Ideato Federal Constituency in Imo State, has urged the National Working Committee (NWC) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to urgently intervene and address the looming crisis threatening to engulf the party.

His warning follows the recent defection of PDP’s 2023 Vice Presidential candidate, Ifeanyi Okowa, and the Delta State Governor, Sheriff Oborevwori, to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

While speaking to party members in the Akokwa area of Imo State on Friday, Ugochinyere revealed that two more PDP governors and 40 lawmakers are on the verge of leaving the party unless drastic action is taken.

He urged the party leadership to officially ratify the removal of the acting National Chairman, Umar Damagum, and install a new chairman from the North Central region. He also called for the immediate expulsion of the party’s National Secretary, Samuel Anyanwu, whom he accused of betraying the party’s cause.

Ugochinyere stated:

“Due to this unresolved crisis, which we must all confront urgently, I can confirm that two more governors and 40 lawmakers are preparing to defect. The PDP is sinking—and it’s happening at an alarming rate.”

He continued:

“To avoid this impending collapse, the NWC must convene an emergency meeting and use its simple majority—with or without Damagum—to expel Anyanwu, a political saboteur, and confirm Damagum’s removal by appointing a North Central candidate as the party’s substantive National Chairman.”

He also urged the party to adopt the Ikimi report and suspend Anyanwu completely, warning that further inaction could spell the end of the PDP.

“Someone has vowed to bury this party, and yet no decisive action has been taken. If the NWC fails to act swiftly, those remaining will leave, and the PDP will be reduced to nothing,” Ugochinyere added.
