‘The Voice Of Edo Has Been Heard,’ Speaker Abbas Congratulates Okpebholo

The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Abbas Tajudeen, has congratulated Senator Monday Okpebholo of the All Progressives Congress (APC), on his victory in Saturday’s governorship election in Edo State.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) on Sunday night declared Senator Okpebholo winner of the election.

Okpebholo, 54, secured 291,667 votes to defeat his main challengers Asue Ighodalo of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) who got 247,274 votes and Olumide Akpata of the Labour Party (LP) who came a distant third in the race with 22,763 votes.

Reacting in a statement signed by his media aide, Musa Abdullahi Krishi, on Monday, Abbas said that Edo people have spoken with their votes.

The Speaker equally congratulated the deputy governor-elect, Hon. Dennis Idahosa, who is a member of the House, on the victory.

Noting that both the governor-elect and the deputy governor-elect are serving members of the National Assembly, Abbas said more parliamentarians are now holding significant stakes in politics and governance in Nigeria.

He, therefore, urged the duo to work together for the common good of Edo people, adding that they should remain good ambassadors of the National Assembly.

With the victory in Edo, the Speaker said Nigerians are still keeping faith with the APC to bring positive changes to the country, especially under the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, and its Renewed Hope Agenda.

Abbas extended his congratulations to President Tinubu and the leadership of the APC at the national and state levels, as well as the people of Edo for “voting positive change” in the state.

While urging Senator Okpebholo and Hon. Idahosa to be magnanimous in victory and extend an olive branch to their opponents, the Speaker called for calm in the state, saying the outcome of the poll is the will of the people.
