Vice-President Kashim Shettima has defended the economic policies of President Bola Tinubu’s administration, insisting that the government deserves recognition for its efforts to reposition Nigeria’s economy rather than continued criticism.

According to Ireporter Online, Shettima made the statement on Monday during the Delta State Economic and Investment Summit held in Asaba, where he highlighted what he described as progress recorded under the current administration’s economic reforms.

The Vice-President said the policies introduced by the Tinubu-led government had begun attracting increased capital inflows and strengthening Nigeria’s foreign reserves despite global economic challenges.

Shettima explained that the administration inherited a difficult economic situation but had taken deliberate steps to stabilise the economy and restore investor confidence.

While speaking on Nigeria’s economic journey, he praised Anambra State Governor, Chukwuma Soludo, for helping citizens understand the financial challenges the country faced before the current reforms were introduced.

He noted that Nigeria’s foreign reserves had improved significantly, rising from about $3 billion to more than $52 billion, describing the development as evidence of increasing confidence in the country’s economy.

“When we were experiencing capital flight and scarcity, we are now experiencing capital inflows. Our foreign reserves have gone up to over $52 billion and counting in a turbulent world. Even the President deserves commendation and not condemnation,” Shettima said.

The Vice-President also commended Soludo for his role in explaining economic issues to Nigerians and recalled the governor’s position during the 2023 election period, saying he remained committed to his convictions despite political pressure.

Shettima further assured local and foreign investors that the Federal Government would continue collaborating with state governments to remove barriers affecting businesses and create a more favourable environment for investment.

He stressed that cooperation between federal and state authorities was essential to building an economy where businesses could expand, investors could operate confidently and Nigerians could benefit from sustainable growth.

The Vice-President maintained that the administration would continue implementing policies aimed at attracting investment, strengthening economic stability and improving Nigeria’s position in the global business community.
