Mark Alan, aged 2, wandered away from his New Hope residence on Friday, March 1, and gained access to the neighbor’s property where he was attacked by the resident’s Siberian husky and German shepherd/golden retriever mix, as reported by local authorities.

The boy’s mother, Kayla Hughey Partain, took to Facebook the following day, expressing profound grief over the tragedy and stating that no one was to blame for the incident, terming it a “very tragic accident.”

New Hope police, after conducting an investigation, confirmed the absence of criminal intent, classifying the incident as an unfortunate accident.

The dogs’ owner, Ricky Clark, recounted the harrowing moment when Alan’s father informed him of the incident, expressing disbelief and asserting that his dogs had never displayed aggression before. Clark speculated that the dogs may have been attempting to protect the child from another dog in the neighborhood.

Animal control took custody of Clark’s dogs, with plans to return them after a 10-day observation period. The incident has left the community shaken and serves as a stark reminder of the unpredictability of such tragic events.
