The National Assembly Election Petition Tribunal in Awka, Anambra State, has rejected the petition filed by Stella Oduah of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) contesting the victory of Tony Nwoye from the Labour Party (LP) in the senatorial election held on February 25.

According to the results declared by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Mr. Nwoye secured 94,779 votes, surpassing his closest rival, Mrs. Oduah of the PDP, who garnered 50,146 votes.

However, Mrs. Oduah, along with her party, the PDP, filed a combined petition challenging Mr. Nwoye’s election as the senator representing Anambra North District.

In a unanimous decision delivered on Wednesday, a three-member panel of judges dismissed Mrs. Oduah’s and the PDP’s petitions, citing a lack of merit, and upheld Mr. Nwoye’s election.

Mrs. Oduah previously represented the district in the ninth Senate. Initially elected in 2015 under the PDP, she served eight years in the Senate. She was re-elected in 2019. In August 2021, Mrs. Oduah switched to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) from the PDP due to a crisis within the APC. She returned to the PDP approximately eight months later in April 2022, stating that she had returned to where she was “highly regarded.”
