UEFA Suspends Premier League Referee Over Euro 2024 Controversy (More Details)

The European football governing body, UEFA, has imposed a ban on former Premier League referee David Coote following an investigation into his conduct during Euro 2024.

UEFA’s probe was triggered after the Sun published photos allegedly depicting Coote engaging in questionable behavior during last summer’s European Championship in Germany. As a result, he has been barred from officiating in European competitions until June 30, 2026.

The 42-year-old, who served as a Video Assistant Referee (VAR) at the tournament, has since expressed regret for his actions. In a recent interview, he also publicly shared that he is gay. Meanwhile, the Football Association (FA) has launched another investigation into comments he allegedly made regarding a 2019 Championship match between Leeds and West Brom, a claim he has denied.
