Speaking on Channels TV’s Politics Today on Thursday, Adejobi expressed his worry about the widespread desire among Nigerians to have tinted glasses on their vehicles. He pointed out that cars equipped with illegally tinted glasses play a significant role in facilitating the nation’s high incidence of kidnappings and criminal activities.

Adejobi disclosed that the police are gearing up to take stern action against vehicles with such tinted glasses. He revealed that specialists and law enforcement officials convened at the Inspector General of Police’s (IGP) office on Wednesday to strategize the forthcoming review of the issuance of vehicle tinting permits.

“You will discover that some of these crimes, particularly violent crimes, and vehicle-related crimes, are interconnected. You can’t have kidnapping or some of these incidents without mobility, be it the use of vehicles, bikes, or tricycles. Most of the vehicles employed in these criminal activities are tinted, which is why we aim to crack down on the use of tinted glasses,” Adejobi explained.

These revelations come at a time when Nigeria is grappling with a surge in kidnapping cases. The recent wave of kidnapping attacks has extended to the South West region, with students and teachers being abducted earlier this week while returning to Eporo Ekiti after the school day. The police’s determination to address the tinted glass issue underscores the urgency of tackling contributing factors to enhance public safety.
