Photos circulating online show Obi, Tinubu, and Fayemi exchanging warm greetings. According to a post on X by President Tinubu’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, their interaction unfolded as follows:

  • While seated among fellow leaders, Fayemi spotted President Tinubu and invited Obi to accompany him in paying respects.

  • Approaching the President, Fayemi broke the ice, saying, “Mr. President, welcome to our church, and thank you for honouring the Pope with your presence.”

  • Tinubu, quick on his feet, replied, “I should be the one welcoming you and Peter. I’m the Head of the Nigerian delegation.”

  • The President’s remark drew laughter from Obi, who chimed in, “Yes, indeed. We are members of your delegation.”

Both Peter Obi and Kayode Fayemi are devout Catholics and papal knights.
