In an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), Yakasai pointed out that Tinubu “commands the widest political support in the country. He has the backing of his ministers and governors.”

“Who else can match his stamina and strength?” Yakasai asked, noting that the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) controls a majority of states and that even opposition governors have shown cooperation with Tinubu.

“Unless there’s a dramatic shift, the odds favor him,” he added. “I’ve seen nothing so far that would prevent him from winning the next election. He has not acted against the north, and the north alone cannot determine the presidency.”

On northern unity, Yakasai clarified that neither the Arewa Consultative Forum nor the Northern Elders Forum has issued an official stance on 2027: “Any statements attributed to these bodies are merely individual opinions, since the region’s various sections have not reached a consensus.”

He also suggested that the fragmentation within opposition ranks will likely smooth Tinubu’s path to a second term. While he stopped short of grading the president’s performance, Yakasai urged political actors to prioritize ideology and national development over personal ambition:

“Politicians should approach politics as a dynamic game—grounded in ideology and programmes. They should focus on shaping the country’s future, rather than merely seeking ministerial or gubernatorial positions, or the presidency itself.”
