on Monday, January 6, noting that the court issued the directive pending the hearing of the main case.
The court also appointed Abubakar Marshal, Esq., as a surety for Speed Darlington’s release, or alternatively, instructed the police to arraign him immediately.
Adeyanju had previously expressed outrage over the rapper’s continued detention, despite a Federal High Court ruling in Abuja granting him bail on December 23. Speed Darlington has been in police custody since November 27 after his re-arrest by the Nigerian police in Owerri, Imo State.
The initial arrest in October was reportedly due to a petition filed by Burna Boy. Following the court’s ruling, Speed Darlington was granted unconditional bail, with his legal team required only to submit the court order to the police legal department for processing. The order was supposed to be forwarded to the Force Investigation Department (FID), where Speed Darlington is currently being held, but the police have yet to comply with the order, sparking concerns about judicial adherence.
