Vote Buying: The Unseen Challenge in Nigeria’s Elections, Says Deputy Inspector-General Frank Mba

Vote buying has emerged as one of the most difficult electoral crimes to manage, according to Deputy Inspector-General of Police Frank Mba. As elections become more competitive, perpetrators have developed new and creative ways to engage in this illegal activity, making it harder for authorities to track and prevent.
Frank Mba emphasized that vote buying is not a straightforward offense. “Those involved in it constantly find new methods to evade detection,” he said. Whether it’s through direct cash handouts, covert transactions, or other schemes, the culprits remain elusive, posing a significant challenge to Nigeria’s law enforcement.
The police and other stakeholders are working relentlessly to curb this menace, but Mba acknowledges that it requires more than just law enforcement to stop vote buying. “It’s a societal problem that needs collective efforts from both authorities and citizens,” he added.
