WAEC, NECO Get Legislative Lifeline As Reps Pledge Unwavering Support For Education Revival

The House of Representatives Committee on Basic Education and Examination Bodies has reaffirmed its dedication to collaborating with the National Examinations Council (NECO)

the West African Examinations Council (WAEC), the National Business and Technical Examinations Board (NABTEB), and other related agencies to uplift the standard of education in Nigeria, according to iReporter Online.

During an oversight visit to schools in Abuja, including the Federal Government Boys College, Apo, and Model Secondary School, Maitama, the Committee Chairman, Hon. Oboku Oforji (PDP, Bayelsa), stated that the exercise was part of the National Assembly’s oversight responsibilities.

He emphasized that NECO, as Nigeria’s indigenous examination body, is critical to the educational reform agenda.

“We are impressed with NECO’s performance, especially under the leadership of Professor Ibrahim Wushishi,” Oforji noted. “From the exam administration to anti-malpractice measures, the agency is showing great promise,” he said, according to iReporter Online.

Oforji highlighted that student identity verification and supervisor diligence were evident during their inspection. He added that the legislature fully supports reforms across all examination bodies, including JAMB and NABTEB, to ensure a more credible and efficient education system.

“We are ready to partner with all stakeholders to achieve better educational outcomes,” he concluded. The Committee assured that the National Assembly would remain proactive in driving these reforms to completion, according to iReporter Online.
