Speaking on Channels Television’s Sunday Politics, Zulum dismissed suggestions that the governors are opposed to Tinubu’s administration. He highlighted that the North significantly supported Tinubu in the 2023 elections, delivering over 60% of his total votes.

Zulum reiterated his concerns about the proposed tax reforms, arguing that the Value Added Tax (VAT) provision would disproportionately benefit Lagos and Rivers States while putting other regions, including the North, at a disadvantage.

“There are misconceptions about this tax issue. Based on our calculations, only Lagos and Rivers stand to gain from the new VAT scheme, while other states, particularly in the North, would lose out,” Zulum explained.

He reaffirmed his loyalty to President Tinubu and the All Progressives Congress (APC), emphasizing his long-standing support for Tinubu’s leadership. “I am a committed APC member. Before the 2019 and 2023 elections, I was among the first governors to publicly advocate for power to shift to the South,” he said.

Zulum concluded by urging a balanced approach to the tax reform to ensure fairness across all regions while reiterating his alignment with Tinubu’s vision for the country.
