Widow Raises Alarm Over Reported Court Action To Sell Late Gen. Sabo’s Abuja Property

A widow, Mrs. Ruth Sabo, has raised serious concerns over alleged attempts by an Upper Area Court in Abuja to sell her property despite ongoing legal disputes and advice from the National Judicial Council (NJC).

According to iReporter Online, these claims come amidst a pending case at the High Court of the Federal Capital Territory challenging a ruling by the presiding judge, Hon. Ado Muktar Ahmed.

 Mrs. Ruth is the wife of the late General Ibrahim Sabo, a former Director of Military Intelligence.

She and her family alleged that the property had already been marked for sale, with a notice showing “Writ of Attachment and Sale” issued by the Federal Capital Territory Judiciary Abuja, in a case involving a N200 million debt.

They claim that this action breaches their rights to a fair hearing and privacy, especially since the case is still before the FCT High Court under suit number FCT/HC/10055/2025.

According to iReporter Online, the family emphasized that the NJC, on March 18, 2025, instructed them to forward their petition to the FCT Judiciary, which has the constitutional authority to handle such matters.

In compliance, they sent the petition on April 4, 2025, and say the Judiciary Service Commission has since waded into the issue.

The family’s ordeal began when the Upper Area Court ordered the sale of the late General Sabo’s property, which was meant to benefit his daughter-in-law, leaving Ruth, his legal wife, with nothing.

 Ruth Sabo challenged the court’s jurisdiction, stating that the Upper Area Court lacked authority over her, and she served papers on the judge.

Despite this, reports indicate that Hon. Ado Muktar Ahmed signed and issued a warrant for the property’s sale, contrary to provisions of Section 12(3) of the Area Courts Act, which stipulates that an appeal should have a stay of proceedings.

The notice of sale was even pasted on her house on August 18, 2025.

According to iReporter Online, the family had previously agreed not to share the property, but a relative’s wife filed a petition seeking N22 million for her share and N170 million for her son’s future, based on the property’s value.

The judge had ordered the family to pay the woman N22 million, and to set aside N170 million for the child once he is of age.

While trying to raise the money, the family alleges the judge demanded an additional N170 million or threatened to sell the property to recover the sum, despite their ongoing appeal and the lack of access to court records for further appeal.

According to iReporter Online, the family further claimed that the judge refused to provide records of proceedings, hindering their ability to appeal, and they have since petitioned the Chief Judge of the FCT High Court to intervene.

They also expressed concern over the judge’s alleged refusal to respond to their calls, raising fears of judicial misconduct and injustice.
