With E-CMR In Effect, Police Will No Longer Stop Cars For Paper Checks
The Nigeria Police Force (NPF) has announced that once the Electronic Central Motor Registration (e-CMR) system is implemented, vehicle owners and users will no longer need to carry physical documents. All vehicle-related information and documents will be accessible digitally.
Force Public Relations Officer ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi shared this update on Wednesday night via a post on X. He explained that police officers would be equipped with advanced technology to verify documents in real-time.
Adejobi highlighted that with the e-CMR system, physical documents will become obsolete as vehicle information will be available digitally. If a registered vehicle is stolen, the owner can flag it as stolen through their online profile, and all field officers across the country will be notified within seconds.
“Inspector-General Egbetokun is transforming road safety with the new E-CMR system! Officers will no longer need to stop vehicles to check papers—our tech allows for real-time document verification,” Adejobi said. “With the NPF’s e-CMR system, access all your vehicle information digitally—quick, easy, and secure. If your vehicle is stolen, you can instantly report it online, and all officers will be alerted immediately. Let’s work together to enhance road safety.”
In July 2024, the Inspector-General of Police mandated the implementation of the digital Central Motor Registry to modernize and streamline the vehicle registration system and bolster national safety and security.
The NPF anticipates that the digital system will enhance convenience and efficiency in vehicle ownership processes, including ownership transfers, license renewals, and updates to vehicle details. Additionally, the system is expected to reduce the incidence of stolen vehicles and aid in their recovery.
