Yakasai Supports Tinubu, While Lamido Criticizes El-Rufai’s Call For Defection

Alhaji Tanko Yakasai, a prominent elder statesman, has publicly backed President Bola Tinubu’s administration, praising the government’s efforts and accomplishments. Speaking in Kano, he pointed to the steady decline in the prices of basic food items like rice, beans, maize, and sorghum, as well as the reduction in petrol prices, which he said now sells for as low as N850 per liter (down from N1,150). Yakasai emphasized that the administration’s achievements validated the public’s trust, and he encouraged Northerners to continue supporting the government.

This endorsement comes as Nasir El-Rufai, the former governor of Kaduna State, seeks to galvanize opposition ahead of the 2027 elections, calling on former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, Peter Obi, and other opposition figures to unite against Tinubu. However, Sule Lamido, a former governor of Jigawa State, rejected El-Rufai’s call, stating that El-Rufai’s defection from the APC to the SDP and his criticism of the PDP was inconsistent with his previous political statements.

Meanwhile, a former APC member in Osun State, Olatunbosun Oyintiloye, insisted that no political gang-up would prevent Tinubu’s re-election in 2027, asserting that Tinubu’s strategic vision and political achievements would ensure his success.
