Yoruba Youths: Protest Against INEC Chairman Misguided And An Unnecessary Distraction
The Yoruba Youth Council (YYC) expressed condemnation on Saturday regarding the planned protest against Professor Mahmood Yakubu, the National Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), labeling it as an unnecessary distraction…READ MORE…
Organized by the #ReformINEC and #SackYakubu Movement, this protest is set to occur in Abuja.
In response to the upcoming demonstration, YYC’s National President, Eric Oluwole, stated that it is driven by “disgruntled individuals aiming to destabilize our nation for their own selfish motives.”
Oluwole remarked: “The Yoruba Youth Council unequivocally denounces the planned protest against INEC Chairman Prof Mahmood Yakubu. This rally, spearheaded by the #ReformINEC and #SackYakubu Movement, is misguided and diverts attention from our nation’s journey toward peace and progress. Their demands for electoral reform and calls for Prof Yakubu’s resignation lack sincerity and basis, appearing to be motivated by individuals with ulterior motives seeking to disrupt our nation.”
He added, “It is unfortunate that these protestors are attempting to misuse perceived public dissatisfaction to undermine the considerable advancements made in our electoral system under Prof Yakubu’s stewardship. We believe these actions are aimed at tarnishing the reputation of a diligent and patriotic Nigerian who has implemented essential reforms to enhance electoral credibility and transparency.”
Oluwole emphasized, “The Yoruba Youth Council stands firmly against this ill-considered and misinformed protest. It is clear that this movement aims to discredit the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, who has remained committed to transforming Nigeria into an economic powerhouse for the benefit of all citizens.”
He urged security agencies nationwide to remain alert and prevent any attempts to disrupt national peace. “Such unfounded and provocative actions pose a threat to the stability of our nation and must not be allowed,” he asserted.
The Yoruba Youth Council proudly supports Prof Mahmood Yakubu, recognizing his commendable efforts in reforming Nigeria’s electoral framework. His reforms have earned international acknowledgment, and it is imperative that we collectively reject any attempts to undermine these progressions through unfounded and divisive protests.
