“You Are Not Wanted!” Plateau APC Women Reject Mutfwang’s Alleged Defection Move
According to Ireporter Online, the women’s wing of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Plateau State took to the streets on Tuesday to voice strong opposition to alleged plans by Governor Caleb Mutfwang to defect to the party.
The protest, led by the state’s APC women leader and rally convener, Elizabeth Samson Yerse, held at the Secretariat Junction Bridge in Jos, drew a large crowd of women dressed in party colours and chanting solidarity songs. Many carried placards with inscriptions such as “Vindictive Mutfwang, No Room in APC,” “APC is Our Promised Land,” and “We Don’t Want Pharaoh Mutfwang.”
Yerse insisted that the women were prepared to resist any attempt by political actors to compel them to accept Mutfwang into the APC, accusing some individuals within the party of working secretly to clear the path for his defection from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). She described such moves as anti-party behaviour.
She emphasized that their stance was rooted in principle, saying the APC, like a dignified woman, must not be forced into accepting anyone whose actions have allegedly undermined the party and its members.
Yerse also recalled past statements attributed to Mutfwang in which he allegedly described the APC as an “evil political party,” arguing that such remarks made his rumored defection unacceptable.
According to her, the women’s wing is united in rejecting any attempt to bring the governor into the party, stressing that the APC cannot serve as a refuge for leaders unable to manage crises within their own parties.
She further criticized Mutfwang’s leadership style, particularly his alleged disengagement of young workers employed under former Governor Simon Bako Lalong, stating that the APC should not welcome someone whose policies reportedly undermine youths and party discipline.
Yerse added that allowing the governor into the APC would undo the efforts of the party’s National Chairman, Professor Nentawe Yiltwada, who she said has worked tirelessly to strengthen the party’s structure and reputation.
During the rally, the women also publicly endorsed President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for a second term, pledging their continued loyalty to his administration.
