The Zamfara State Ministry of Education, Science, and Technology has officially prohibited signing-out or farewell activities in all schools across the state amid growing concerns over student misconduct. According to reports, the directive was issued in a circular on Monday by the Commissioner for Education, Abdulmalik Abubakar Gajam.

The circular, which was also shared with Governor Dauda Lawal, security agencies, school administrators, and other relevant stakeholders, cited recent instances where farewell events organized by final-year students devolved into occasions marked by unacceptable behaviour. The ministry emphasized that such actions conflict with the values and standards expected within the state’s education system.

In line with the directive, all schools are required to immediately cease signing-out celebrations. School authorities have been instructed to convene meetings with parents, guardians, and other stakeholders to ensure compliance. Parents and guardians are urged to caution students against participating in these activities, with the ministry warning that violations will attract strict penalties.

Teachers who facilitate or permit such events may face disciplinary measures, including official warnings, suspension, or demotion. Students found in breach of the directive could have their results withheld or cancelled and may, in certain cases, be required to repeat the academic year. Security personnel, including school security officers, are tasked with monitoring compliance, while religious and community leaders are encouraged to support the initiative and guide young people.
