Army Clarifies Dismissal Of Soldier Who Told Politicians To Send Their Children To War
The Nigerian Army has explained the reasons behind the dismissal of former soldier Rotimi Olamilekan, popularly known as Soja Boi. According to a statement released on Tuesday by Appolonia Anele, Acting Director of Army Public Relations, Olamilekan was dismissed due to repeated acts of indiscipline, not because of his viral video addressing political leaders.
The statement clarified that the decision followed several violations of military regulations, including breaches of the Armed Forces’ social media guidelines. The Army emphasized that its operations are governed by strict rules, which all personnel are expected to follow. Violations cited included appearing in the media without authorization, using military identity for personal gain, creating politically linked content, and wearing the military uniform inappropriately.
The Army noted that Olamilekan’s case was handled through proper military procedures before the dismissal was finalized. It reiterated that its decisions regarding postings and duties are based on operational requirements rather than public opinion and highlighted its continued focus on discipline, accountability, and personnel welfare.
The Army also warned Nigerians to disregard claims suggesting that Olamilekan was punished for speaking about the challenges faced by soldiers, describing such reports as misleading and potentially damaging to morale.
Olamilekan rose to public attention in February 2026 after a video in which he urged governors, senators, and ministers to allow their children to serve in the military at lower ranks, so they could better understand soldiers’ experiences. The video went viral and sparked widespread debate. Following his release from custody in March 2026, Olamilekan expressed gratitude to those who advocated for him during his detention.
