Zulum: Boko Haram Will Be Defeated, Borno Is Ours

According to Ireporter Online, the Governor of Borno State, Babagana Zulum, has expressed optimism that the Boko Haram insurgency will soon be brought to an end, assuring residents of continued efforts to restore lasting peace in the state.

The governor conveyed this message in an Easter statement released on Sunday through his media aide, Dauda Iliya, while extending greetings to Christians in Borno and across Nigeria. He emphasized his administration’s commitment to fostering peace and unity among residents, noting the progress made in promoting harmony between religious communities.

“It is encouraging to witness the level of religious harmony between Christians and Muslims in the state. I urge all residents to maintain this spirit as we take deliberate steps toward lasting peace,” Zulum stated.

Highlighting the significance of Easter, he described the period as a time of sacrifice, forgiveness, and love, and felicitated with Christian communities across the state and nation. He further observed that the celebration marks the end of the 40-day Lenten season, traditionally a time of fasting, prayer, repentance, and reflection.

Zulum also reaffirmed his administration’s dedication to improving security and the well-being of residents, noting efforts to mitigate economic hardship. “This year, we have expanded our palliative distribution to reach over 300,000 families, helping vulnerable households cope with current economic challenges,” he said.

The governor urged citizens to remain united and reject divisive tendencies, particularly in the current political climate. “Borno belongs to all of us. We must avoid actions that could undermine our collective journey of recovery and allow enemies of peace to derail our progress,” he added.

Zulum commended the Nigerian Armed Forces, security agencies, members of the Civilian Joint Task Force, hunters, and vigilantes for their sacrifices and successes in counter-insurgency efforts. He also praised traditional rulers and religious leaders for promoting peaceful coexistence and encouraged them to continue fostering unity and tolerance in their communities.
