Resident Doctors Suspend Strike

The Nigerian Association of Resident Doctors (NARD) has called off its one-week warning strike, which began on Wednesday, May 17.

Dr. Emeka Orji, president of the association, told Channels Television that the association had suspended the strike for two weeks after reaching an agreement with the government on Friday.

He did, however, state that the doctors will meet again on June 2nd this year to review progress made with the signed agreement, after which the association will decide on their next course of action.

After a 14-day ultimatum to the government expired on May 17, NARD began a five-day warning strike to press its demands.

The doctors are demanding, among other things, that all salary arrears be paid to their members and that public hospital infrastructure be upgraded immediately.
