5 Ex-Governors’ Children Given New Appointment (FULL LIST)

During the House of Representatives’ plenary session on Thursday, Speaker Tajudeen Abbas announced the formation of 134 standing committees in the green chamber.

Among the appointed chairpersons of these committees are five children of former governors.

The appointed individuals are Ibori Suenu, a member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) from Delta; Mohammed Bello el-Rufai, a lawmaker of the All Progressives Congress (APC) from Kaduna; Adegboyega Adefarati of the APC from Ondo; Olamiju Akala from Oyo; and Segun Osoba from Ogun.

James Ibori, Suenu’s father, served as governor of Delta State from 1999 to 2007. Mohammed is the son of Nasir el-Rufai, the immediate past governor of Kaduna. Olumide is the son of Segun Osoba, the former governor of Ogun, who held office between 1992 and 2003. Adegboyega is the son of the late former governor of Ondo, Adebayo Adefarati, who was governor from 1999 to 2003. Olamiju is the son of the late Alao Akala, a former governor of Oyo.

These individuals have been appointed to head various standing committees of the House of Representatives as part of the chamber’s commitment to fulfilling its constitutional mandate, which includes overseeing government agencies and programs through the committees and addressing significant national issues.
