Actress Biodun Okeowo Reveals How She Funded Her Son’s Overseas Education
Nollywood actress Biodun Okeowo, popularly known as Omoborty, has opened up about the sacrifices she made as a single mother while celebrating the graduation of her son from Concordia University of Edmonton in Canada.
In a heartfelt message shared on social media, the actress reflected on the years of hard work, financial commitments, and emotional challenges she endured to support her son’s education abroad, describing the achievement as a rewarding outcome of perseverance and faith.
According to her, the journey involved countless sleepless nights, personal sacrifices, and the burden of handling expenses independently. She noted that despite navigating the responsibilities of single parenthood, she never felt entirely alone and remained motivated by the hope of seeing her son succeed.
Okeowo used the occasion to encourage other single parents to remain steadfast in the face of difficulties, urging them not to lose hope or allow anyone to diminish the value of their sacrifices.
The actress revealed that she deliberately cut back on social activities, including attending parties, in order to save money for tuition payments. She explained that funding an international education requires significant financial planning and discipline.
She further disclosed that there were occasions when she sold some of her gold jewellery to meet school fee obligations, while also recounting emotionally challenging moments when she and her son would break down in tears during video calls as they struggled through the pressures of academic and financial demands.
Expressing gratitude for her son’s accomplishment, Okeowo credited the success to faith, prayers, determination, and divine grace. She also addressed public assumptions that parents who send their children abroad for education are financially comfortable, stressing that many of the responsibilities and sacrifices involved remain hidden from public view.
The actress explained that social media often creates misleading impressions about people’s financial realities, adding that some individuals are unaware of the private commitments she manages despite appearances. She maintained that the educational pursuit was not financed through borrowing or public assistance, but through years of personal sacrifice and careful planning.
Describing her son’s graduation as one of the proudest moments of her life, Okeowo said the milestone validated every challenge she encountered along the way. She added that the celebration represented the culmination of years of prayers, faith, tears, sleepless nights, and unwavering commitment to securing a brighter future for her child.
