The explosion occurred shortly after a Youth Day parade, adding to the horror as children in blue school uniforms were caught in the chaos, captured in distressing videos circulating on social media.

Authorities reported that the improvised explosive device detonated near fairgrounds in Nkambe, raising suspicions of separatist activity in the region plagued by conflict between armed independence movements and the military.

Governor Adolphe Lele Lafrique confirmed the toll, stating, “We have counted 40 wounded, of whom four are serious, and one death,” while pointing to separatist groups as the primary suspects.

The unrest in Cameroon dates back to 2016, marked by clashes between the Anglophone minority and the predominantly French-speaking government. President Paul Biya’s iron-fisted rule has intensified tensions, drawing international scrutiny over alleged human rights abuses on both sides.
