Soludo Under Fire! APGA Lawmakers Hit Back At LP Caucus Over LG Autonomy Claims

Federal lawmakers from the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) have dismissed accusations made by their Labour Party (LP) counterparts, claiming that Anambra State Governor Charles Soludo is attempting to undermine local government autonomy through an executive bill. Led by Senator Tony Nwoye, LP lawmakers had alleged that Soludo’s proposed State and Local Government Joint Account Law was a ploy to sidestep a Supreme Court ruling that granted financial independence to local governments.

In response, APGA lawmakers emphasized that Governor Soludo remains committed to both financial and administrative autonomy for local government councils. They argued that the proposed law has been misinterpreted and is not intended to circumvent the Supreme Court’s judgment, but rather to ensure good governance and accountability at the grassroots level.

Paschal Agbodike, leader of the APGA caucus in the House of Representatives, stated that the allegations were baseless, clarifying that the nation’s constitution empowers states to regulate local councils. He called on LP lawmakers to work alongside Governor Soludo in driving Anambra State toward progress.
