The attack occurred Saturday night at La Casita Azul in the city of Villahermosa, located in Tabasco state. Following the incident, a manhunt was initiated for the suspects, as stated by the secretariat of security and civilian protection.

“Five individuals lost their lives, and seven were wounded,” the statement confirmed.

Authorities are currently reviewing footage from surveillance cameras and have deployed coordinated patrols involving both state and federal forces to apprehend those responsible.

Local media reports indicate that unidentified gunmen entered the establishment and opened fire on patrons, resulting in a scene of chaos with bodies left on the floor.

Recently, Tabasco, known for its oil production, has witnessed a surge in violent crime. In November, another armed assault on a bar in Villahermosa claimed six lives and injured ten. This incident followed closely on the heels of a shooting in Queretaro that left ten dead—a region that had previously been less affected by organized crime-related violence.

Just that same weekend, another bar shooting in a suburb of Mexico City resulted in six fatalities.

Since the government began deploying military forces against drug trafficking in 2006, drug-related violence has claimed over 450,000 lives in Mexico, according to official statistics.
