Ekiti Man Arraigned for Threatening to Burn Wife, Children Alive

A 55-year-old man, Afolabi Samuel, was arraigned on Wednesday before a Chief Magistrate’s Court in Ado Ekiti for allegedly threatening to kill his wife and children by setting them on fire.

According to the prosecuting officer, Inspector Akinwale Oriyomi, the incident took place on June 22 around 9:00 a.m. in the Olokuta Matthew area of Ado Ekiti. Samuel was said to have purchased petrol and had matches nearby when he made the alleged threats against his family.

The police also accused him of conducting himself in a manner likely to breach the peace, actions which are considered violations under Sections 69 and 181(d) of the Ekiti State Laws of 2021.

In court, defence counsel Joy Raphael appealed for bail, assuring the court that her client would not flee.

Presiding over the matter, Chief Magistrate Abayomi Adeosun granted the defendant bail in the sum of ₦50,000 with one surety in like sum. He adjourned the case to July 22 for hearing and cautioned the defendant to maintain good behavior until the next court appearance.
