Tinubu Presides Over Emotional FEC Session In Honour Of Late President Buhari
State House, Abuja – July 17, 2025
It was a day of solemn tributes and national reflection as President Bola Ahmed Tinubu presided over a special session of the Expanded Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting held in honour of the late President Muhammadu Buhari, GCFR, at the State House, Abuja.
The meeting, which drew a full house, witnessed the presence of Vice President Kashim Shettima, Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Senator George Akume, Chief of Staff to the President, Rt. Hon. Femi Gbajabiamila, and several cabinet members including Minister of the FCT, Nyesom Wike, and Minister of Regional Development, Engr. Abubakar Momoh, FNSE.
The Buhari family was represented by the late President’s children, led by Yusuf Buhari, whose quiet composure added a deeply emotional tone to the proceedings.
In a moving tribute, President Tinubu described the late Buhari as “a man whose presence once commanded this very room… first among soldiers in war, first among citizens in peace,” emphasizing his discipline, humility, and incorruptible nature. The President hailed Buhari’s austere leadership and commitment to Nigeria’s unity and democracy, noting that he left behind not just a record, but a moral standard that will guide generations to come.
Senate President Godswill Akpabio, Speaker of the House of Representatives Rt. Hon. Tajudeen Abbas, and Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, SAN, also delivered heartfelt tributes, each recounting personal memories, political mentorship, and the national legacy of President Buhari.
Akpabio lauded Buhari’s principled stand and Spartan integrity, while Speaker Abbas recalled the former President’s warmth, mentorship, and service-first philosophy. Keyamo reflected on Buhari’s unblemished public service, describing him as “an enigma in life and in death.”
The event was not only a celebration of a life well lived but also a reaffirmation of the values Buhari stood for — integrity, simplicity, patriotism, and accountability.
President Tinubu concluded the session with a prayer for Buhari’s soul and extended his condolences to Hajia Aisha Buhari, the entire Buhari family, and the people of Katsina State. “Mai Gaskiya, the People’s General, the Farmer President — your duty is done. Nigeria will remember you,” the President said.
The Expanded FEC session marked a historic moment of unity across Nigeria’s leadership spectrum, honouring a man whose footprints are deeply etched in the sands of the nation’s journey.
