“Tinubu To Nigerian Youths: Use Your Phones To Unite, Not Fight!”

President Bola Tinubu has called on Nigerian youths to leverage the power of digital media to foster national unity, drive innovation, and accelerate Nigeria’s development agenda.

Speaking at the Progressives Digital Summit held on Friday at the State House in Abuja, ACCORDING TO IREPORTER ONLINE, Tinubu urged young Nigerians to use social media not for retaliation or outrage, but for mentorship, problem-solving, and nation-building.

The summit, themed “Unveiling the Critical Role of New Media in National Development,” attracted stakeholders across tech, media, and civil society sectors.

President Tinubu underscored that digital platforms, when used responsibly, have the potential to transform Nigeria’s economic and social landscapes.

“I challenge you to use your platforms not only for self-expression, anger or retaliation but for problem-solving and inspiring others,” Tinubu said.

“Disinformation spreads rapidly in our digital age—verify before you amplify.”

He stressed the importance of values such as honesty, patriotism, and compassion in shaping Nigeria’s digital culture.

Tinubu also reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to expanding internet infrastructure and ensuring cybersecurity for all citizens.
ACCORDING TO IREPORTER ONLINE, the president noted that protecting Nigerians in both the physical and virtual spaces is a top priority for his government.

“As our digital ecosystem expands, so must our sense of responsibility to protect it. Safety, trust, and accountability are non-negotiable,” he declared.

The president lauded the ingenuity of Nigerian youths who have used digital tools to amplify their voices and create impactful innovations across sectors.

ACCORDING TO IREPORTER ONLINE, he emphasized that the future of governance, enterprise, and national identity will be deeply influenced by how digital spaces are used today.

In his remarks, Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, warned against the misuse of digital media to spread disinformation, especially with the 2027 elections in view.

He referenced global examples, including election interference in the U.S. and Germany, to highlight how digital platforms can be manipulated to sway public opinion.

Dada Olusegun, Special Assistant to the President on Social Media and convener of the summit, described social media as an engine of innovation and influence, stating, “It has moved beyond memes and entertainment—it’s now a vital tool for governance, business, and civic engagement.”

The summit was attended by key government officials, youth leaders, technology experts, media practitioners, and civil society organizations.
