Soludo Declares Tuesday School-Free Day To Celebrate Teachers’ Impact In Anambra

Anambra State Governor, Professor Chukwuma Charles Soludo, has declared Tuesday, October 7, 2025, a school-free day across the state to honour teachers for their invaluable contributions to education.

According to Ireporter Online, the declaration followed the observation that this year’s World Teachers’ Day, which is celebrated globally on October 5, coincided with a Sunday. The Commissioner for Education, Professor Ngozi Chuma-Udeh, confirmed the development in a statement issued on Monday in Awka, noting that the governor’s gesture aims to give teachers the recognition they truly deserve.

“In view of the fact that the 2025 World Teachers’ Day fell on a Sunday, His Excellency has approved Tuesday as a school-free day to celebrate and honour teachers in the state,” the Commissioner announced.

She further disclosed that the day’s celebration would include a mega endorsement march organised by the Solution Parents League to appreciate Governor Soludo’s ongoing reforms and investments in the education sector. The Association of Private School Owners in Anambra State is also expected to participate in the march.

All teachers, parents, and school proprietors have been directed to assemble at Alex Ekwueme Square, Awka, by 8:00 a.m. for the event, which will highlight the administration’s achievements in education—particularly in the areas of teacher training, infrastructure development, and curriculum improvement under the Solution Agenda.

Meanwhile, reports indicate that teachers nationwide marked World Teachers’ Day on Sunday with renewed appeals for improved welfare, better working conditions, and full implementation of the 65-year retirement age policy.

At various gatherings across the country, teachers’ unions and education advocates expressed concerns over poor remuneration, delayed promotions, and the sluggish pace of education reforms. They emphasized the need for better funding, smaller class sizes, and modern teaching resources to enhance both teaching quality and morale.

Stakeholders also called on government authorities at all levels to prioritize teacher welfare and uphold their promises to revitalize the nation’s education system.
