Tinubu’s Finance Minister Wale Edun Jet Off To London For Urgent Medical Care

According to Ireporter Online, Nigeria’s Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Mr. Wale Edun, has reportedly travelled to the United Kingdom to receive medical treatment.

This development follows earlier statements from the Presidency indicating that Edun was being treated at his Abuja residence and might seek medical attention abroad if necessary.

Reliable government sources confirmed on Tuesday that the minister has indeed departed the country. “It’s true, he has left already,” one source disclosed. Reports indicate that Edun flew from Abuja to Lagos on Monday night via a commercial airline before connecting to a British Airways flight bound for London.

In a previous clarification, the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Mr. Bayo Onanuga, announced that the Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Mr. Olayemi Cardoso, would lead the economic team in Edun’s absence due to his indisposition.

While rumours had circulated suggesting that the finance minister suffered a stroke and was urgently flown abroad, the Presidency dismissed such reports, assuring Nigerians that he was recuperating well.

Further confirming this, the Special Adviser to the President on Media and Communications, Mr. Sunday Dare, shared a personal update via his official (formerly Twitter) handle, saying he had recently spoken with the minister. “Moments ago, I got off the phone with Nigeria’s Finance Minister and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Mr. Wale Edun, in Abuja. Over a bowl of amala, we spoke for a few minutes with assurances he was getting better. I wished him the best of health,” Dare wrote.

Government insiders describe Edun as a crucial member of President Bola Tinubu’s economic reform team, whose absence may temporarily shift responsibilities within the ministry as he continues his recovery abroad.
