According to Ireporter Online, controversial Nigerian singer Habeeb Okikiola, popularly known as Portable, has regained his freedom after spending about one week in police custody.

The artiste was arraigned on January 12 before a Magistrates’ Court sitting in Ota, Ogun State, over allegations bordering on assault, theft, causing bodily harm and resisting arrest. He was also accused of stealing a Mercedes-Benz E300, reportedly valued at ₦12 million.

Portable was, however, remanded in custody after the court declined to grant him bail, following the absence of the police officer handling the case, which resulted in an adjournment of proceedings.

Shortly after his release, a video that has since gone viral on social media captured the singer in the company of his associates, who enthusiastically welcomed him back. In the footage, Portable jokingly adopted a new nickname, announcing himself as “Innocenty,” to the cheers of his supporters.

Reacting to his release, the singer’s manager, Baby Luv, took to Instagram to express gratitude to Portable’s first wife, Bewaji, for her unwavering support during the period of detention. Sharing a photograph of the couple, she thanked God for the singer’s freedom and praised Bewaji for standing firm through the ordeal.

Portable’s latest detention adds to a history of repeated encounters with law enforcement. Since gaining prominence in 2022, the singer has been arrested, arraigned and remanded on several occasions, reportedly more than eight times, across correctional facilities in Kwara, Ogun and Lagos states.
