Aisha Yesufu Defects To NDC, Declares Senatorial Run
Prominent activist Aisha Yesufu has resigned her membership of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) and formally aligned with the Nigeria Democratic Congress, marking a significant shift in her political trajectory ahead of the 2027 general elections.
According to Ireporter Online, Yesufu disclosed the development in a statement shared via her account on Wednesday, citing her commitment to remain loyal to the political vision of Peter Obi as a key factor behind her decision. She noted that her political moves have consistently been guided by a promise to support Obi, whom she described as representing the aspirations of Nigerians seeking effective governance.
She further announced her intention to contest the Federal Capital Territory senatorial seat in the 2027 elections under the platform of the NDC, signaling a transition from activism to elective politics. In her statement, she emphasized that her earlier decision to join the ADC was influenced by her support for Obi, and that her move to the NDC reflects a continuation of that commitment.
Yesufu stated that she had fulfilled all obligations to her former party and ensured what she described as a smooth and “clean transition.” She expressed gratitude to members of the ADC, acknowledging the opportunity to serve in various leadership roles, including as sub-committee chair, deputy committee chair, and secretary. She described her experience within the party as invaluable and appreciated colleagues for their cooperation and shared vision of national development.
Her declaration to run for the FCT senatorial seat underscores a new phase in her political engagement, as she positions herself within a different platform while maintaining alignment with her long-standing political convictions.
