Former Rivers State Governor and former Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, has declared that he stands as the most qualified and electable presidential aspirant within the African Democratic Congress (ADC) ahead of the 2027 general elections.

According to Ireporter Online, Amaechi made the assertion during an interview on Arise Television on Friday, where he emphasized that his extensive leadership experience and relative youth give him an edge over other contenders vying for the party’s presidential ticket.

The ADC presidential race reportedly includes former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and former Managing Director of the Northern Nigeria Development Company, Mohammed Hayatu-Deen.

Explaining why he should be considered ahead of other aspirants, Amaechi pointed to his long record of leadership positions, insisting that none of his rivals, including President Bola Tinubu, matched his experience in certain key roles.

He highlighted his tenure as Chairman of the Nigeria Governors’ Forum, noting that he was the first person to serve two terms in that capacity. He also referenced his time as Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly and Chairman of the Speakers’ Forum, saying these roles strengthened his leadership credentials.

Amaechi further stated that he played a pioneering role in institutionalizing the Speakers’ Conference office in Abuja, where he served for two terms, adding that his track record in coordinating elected officials set him apart from other aspirants.

He also recalled tensions during his tenure as Governors’ Forum chairman, alleging political resistance to his re-election at the time, while maintaining that his leadership style was largely about reflecting the collective decisions of governors rather than imposing personal views.
