According to Ireporter Online, South African singer Tyla made history at the 2026 American Music Awards held on Monday after clinching two major honours, becoming the only African artiste to secure wins at the 52nd edition of the ceremony.

The Johannesburg-born star, whose full name is Tyla Laura Seethal, was named Best Afrobeats Artist, defeating strong contenders including Burna Boy, Wizkid, Rema, and Moliy. She also secured the fan-voted Social Song of the Year award for her hit single “Chanel.”

Tyla entered the night as the most nominated African act in AMA history, earning four nominations, which also included Best Music Video and Best Female R&B Artist.

Released in October 2025, “Chanel” has recorded massive global success, surpassing 320 million streams on Spotify and topping multiple international charts.

The singer first gained global attention in 2023 with her breakout hit “Water,” a fusion of Amapiano and R&B that reached the US Billboard Hot 100 top 10 and later earned her a Grammy for Best African Music Performance. She has since continued her rise, adding MTV Video Music Awards for Best Afrobeats Video in 2024 and 2025 to her growing list of achievements.
