Army Orders Abuja Residents To Vacate Homes Over Security Threat

Residents of Angwa Dio and Angwa Shibaba communities in Tungamaje, Gwagwalada Area Council of the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja, have reportedly been ordered to vacate their homes by Wednesday, August 12, 2026.

According to IREPORTERONLINE, the directive was issued by the Nigerian Army amid an escalating dispute over land ownership and access to farmland in the area.

Tungamaje is a developing residential and farming community located along the Zuba-Gwagwalada corridor of the Federal Capital Territory.

The latest directive has heightened tension among residents, particularly as several houses in the affected communities have reportedly been marked for demolition.

Community sources said more than 30 houses across Angwa Dio and Angwa Shibaba have been earmarked for demolition, with residents instructed to leave the area before the expiration of the latest deadline.

Residents had initially been given until Saturday, August 8, to vacate the affected areas. However, following intervention by community leaders and other stakeholders, the deadline was reportedly extended by five days to Wednesday.

A community source said residents who appealed against the directive were allegedly informed that the decision came from higher authorities and could not be reversed at the local level.

The development has reportedly left several homeowners uncertain about where they would relocate if the demolition proceeds.

Some residents have also expressed concern over the possibility of a forceful eviction once the latest deadline expires, saying the situation has created fear and uncertainty across the communities.

The dispute between Tungamaje residents and the Nigerian Army reportedly dates back several months, with residents previously accusing some military personnel of attempting to take control of portions of their ancestral lands.

In earlier complaints, residents alleged that some Army personnel had displaced original landowners and subsequently taken possession of the affected properties.

There were also allegations that some of the lands were later allocated or rented to other individuals after the original occupants had been removed.

The latest eviction order has therefore renewed concerns among residents over the ownership and control of land in Tungamaje, with affected homeowners awaiting further intervention from relevant authorities.
