18 Nasarawa Ward Executives Dismiss Suspension Of APC Chairman
A fresh crisis has erupted in the Nasarawa State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) as 18 out of the 27 executive members in Gayam Ward, Lafia Local Government Area, have disowned the purported suspension of the state party chairman, Dr. Aliyu Bello.
Their position follows an earlier press conference on Tuesday where the Ward Chairman, Ibrahim Iliyasu, and Secretary, Ibrahim Kwande, announced Bello’s suspension over alleged anti-party activities, claiming his actions had embarrassed the party and undermined collective efforts.
However, addressing journalists in Lafia on Wednesday, Assistant Secretary of the ward, Adamu Bawa, speaking for the 18 executives, condemned the move, saying it was carried out without the knowledge, quorum, or consent of the Gayam Ward Executive Committee.
Bawa argued that the action violated the APC Constitution, describing it as gross misconduct, abuse of office, and a breach capable of tarnishing the image of the party across all levels.
“The Ward Chairman and Secretary, along with a few others, unilaterally and unlawfully suspended Dr. Aliyu Bello without due process, clearly contravening the provisions of the APC Constitution (2022 as Amended),” he stated.
The executives resolved to categorically dissociate themselves from the suspension, declaring it illegal, invalid, and of no effect.
They further condemned Iliyasu and Kwande’s conduct, describing it as a blatant breach of Article 21 of the party’s constitution, and consequently announced their suspension from office pending investigation by the appropriate disciplinary committee.
Reaffirming their loyalty, Bawa said, “We pledge our unwavering support for Dr. Aliyu Bello as the legitimate State Chairman of the APC in Nasarawa State. This resolution will also be communicated to the Local Government, State, and National Secretariats of our party for necessary records and further action.”
Other ward executives present at the briefing included Deputy Chairman Adamu Awe, Auditor Garba Baba, Treasurer Sarki Usman, Youth Leader Auwal Wambai, Assistant Auditor Alhassan Dahiru, among others.
