9ikky Opens Up: “My New EP Mirrors My Life Journey

Nigerian music artist, 9ikky, born Ogbonnaya Nkemdirim, has revealed that his newly released extended play project was inspired by his personal experiences and the realities faced by people around him.

According to reports by Ireporter Online, the Rivers State-raised entertainer explained that the six-track EP was carefully created to connect emotionally with listeners while addressing themes centred on struggle, emotions, daily life, and human experiences. He noted that his style of music is designed to uplift moods, stir emotions, and communicate real-life situations in a relatable manner.

Speaking about the motivation behind his sound, the singer stated that his passion for music began in 2012 after hearing a friend recite lyrics from a song by veteran Nigerian rapper Nigga Raw. He explained that his attempt to imitate the lyrical delivery gradually developed into songwriting, rap experimentation, and eventually a full commitment to pursuing music professionally.

Originally from Arochukwu, the artist was born in Port Harcourt and raised in Bonny Island. As the first child in a family of five, he reportedly balanced his academic pursuits with a growing passion for entertainment and music.

Reports further indicate that between 2014 and 2018, 9ikky studied Geology at University of Calabar, where he gained recognition through active participation in rap competitions and talent shows. His performances during that period reportedly earned him several victories and growing popularity within entertainment circles on campus.

The artist maintained that music has evolved from a youthful interest into a career driven by passion, resilience, and storytelling. Observers note that 9ikky is among a new generation of independent Nigerian musicians using authenticity and personal narratives to establish themselves in the country’s competitive music industry.
