Abuja-Kaduna Train Service Experiences Hot Axle, NRC Assures Passengers of Safety

The Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC) has confirmed an incident involving one of its coaches on the Abuja-Kaduna Train Service (AKTS), which developed a hot axle a few kilometres from Rigasa Station in Kaduna, according to iReporter Online.

In a statement released on Thursday in Lagos, the NRC’s Chief Public Relations Officer, Mr. Callistus Unyimadu, explained that the incident occurred on Wednesday evening and was triggered by excessive friction on the wheels due to abnormally high temperatures.

Unyimadu noted that the situation was quickly contained and the affected train safely marshalled into Kaduna station without further issues.

According to iReporter Online, NRC has since addressed the matter and reassured passengers of their safety.

Following the incident, the Corporation stated that there will be a temporary capacity issue specifically affecting the business class section of the train. Passengers who had bookings for that class on Thursday have already been contacted using the personal details submitted during online reservations.

According to iReporter Online, the NRC has made alternative arrangements to accommodate affected passengers, while efforts are underway to minimize any further service disruptions.

Unyimadu reiterated NRC’s commitment to maintaining passenger safety and delivering quality service across its rail network. “We apologise and regret all the inconveniences caused by the incident,” he added.
