Known as the Toghu Marathoner, Afowiri is set to embark on his 17th marathon, adding to the 673 kilometers he has already covered in races across Europe, America, and Australia.

Expressing his excitement, Afowiri emphasized the significance of Tokyo, labeling it as a special destination. He highlighted that the upcoming marathon will mark his sixth world major marathon, earning him the prestigious six-star major marathoner badge.

However, beyond personal achievements, Afowiri’s primary focus lies in community development efforts back home in Cameroon. He aims to raise funds to rebuild the Tsenmah and Ndzenkov bridges in Ngondzen Community, Cameroon.

The deteriorating condition of these bridges, constructed with aging planks, poses significant risks to the community. Shu Fai Lun, the village head, stressed the urgent need for replacement, as the bridges are on the brink of collapse. Their deterioration has isolated the community, impeding access for both vehicles and motorcycles.

During the rainy season, the situation worsens, hindering children from attending school and farmers from accessing their fields, leading to substantial losses. Shu Fai Lun appeals to global goodwill ambassadors to support Afowiri’s cause and aid in the construction of new bridges.

Afowiri Fondzenyuy has a history of using his marathons to champion various charitable causes, including education, autism research, Ebola relief, and school construction projects.

For Afowiri, the arduous 42.2-kilometer Tokyo marathon holds deeper significance. He sees it as an opportunity to pave the way for the children and women of Ngondzen, ensuring they have safe passage across sturdy, well-constructed bridges in the future.
