Agada And The Asue Ighodalo Reality: When The PDP Walked Two Roads And Still Lost The Plot

In Edo political parlance, there’s a term that captures the essence of fickle loyalties — Agada. Locally, Agada refers to an exaggerated bow leg, so wide and awkward that the owner is practically walking across two separate roads at once. In the political theatre of Edo, the term has become a metaphor for those who wear a PDP cap in the morning and an APC t-shirt by sunset.

Today, the Edo State House of Assembly stands as a clear reflection of political realignment in motion. At a landmark event yesterday, Rt. Hon. Blessing Agbebaku, the Speaker of the House, formally joined the All Progressives Congress (APC), marking a full 18/18 alignment with the state’s ruling party.

The same legislators who once sat on the other side of the aisle have now embraced the leadership and direction of Governor Monday Okpebholo. It’s not betrayal—it’s recognition of performance. As development speaks louder than partisanship, the Agada-style shift isn’t just symbolic; it’s strategic.

But the real wahala now rests with Asue Ighodalo, the man PDP once called their technocrat messiah. Today, he’s standing alone—no party backing him, no godfather beside him. That “mandate” he says was stolen? Nobody dey fight for am again—not in court, not on the streets, and definitely not in Edo politics.

Why? Because PDP in Edo had only one job—stand strong. But even them no fit pretend say Obaseki be leader. The man just ghost the party like person wey owe money—since the day his tenure wan end, he vanish. No direction, no motivation, no grassroots support—PDP just scatter like bridge wey no get foundation.

Meanwhile, Governor Monday Okpebholo, affectionately known as Akpakomiza or now “Akpako Rescue,” is not just holding the line — he’s redrawing it with fresh concrete and construction of new flyovers.

Roads are getting fixed.

Flyovers are springing up.

Ambrose Alli University (AAU) is alive again, thanks to revived subventions.

Edo Central is alive, not just politically but economically.

Edo North is in motion, feeling the pulse of renewed governance.

Edo South is content, witnessing the ripple effect of good leadership.

So, while Asue pens long tweets about electoral justice, real governance is happening in real time. The people have moved on — and perhaps, so should he.

The PDP Agadas have made their final cross — and it led them straight into the APC camp. What remains of their party is a shell, haunted by the silence of Obaseki and the futility of Asue’s ambition.

In Edo today, performance is the new politics. And Akpakomiza is writing that performance with bulldozers, tar, and a deep sense of responsibility.

As the saying now goes in Benin:
“Na who dey work, we go follow!”
