Ali Ndume Apologizes to APC for Criticizing President Tinubu
On August 6, 2024, former Senate Chief Whip Ali Ndume publicly apologized to the All Progressives Congress (APC) for his recent remarks about President Bola Tinubu. Ndume’s comments, made during an Arise TV interview, criticized Tinubu for being disconnected from the economic hardships facing Nigerians, which led to Ndume’s removal from his Senate position last month.
According to Punch, Ndume was replaced by Senator Tahir Monguno of Borno North following a directive from APC National Chairman Umar Ganduje and National Secretary Senator Bashir Ajibola. After a two-hour meeting with the APC National Working Committee in Abuja, Ndume acknowledged his error in not raising his concerns through the party first.
In his apology, Ndume defended his comments as driven by patriotism but admitted that he should have used official party channels to address his grievances. He refuted claims of his expulsion from the APC, asserting his continued allegiance to the party.
Ganduje confirmed the APC’s acceptance of Ndume’s apology and revealed plans to appeal to the Senate for Ndume’s reinstatement. He described the situation as a “family issue” and expressed optimism that the National Assembly would reconsider the decision on Ndume’s removal.
By addressing his concerns within the party framework, Ndume aims to restore his position and continue contributing to Nigeria’s progress under President Tinubu’s leadership.
