Recognizing the ongoing challenges of soaring food costs, economic disruptions, and heightened security concerns, Atiku underscored the imperative need for a comprehensive national planning vision prioritizing the well-being of ordinary citizens.
Atiku emphasized that there is sufficient time for the government, under President Tinubu’s leadership, to tackle the difficulties faced by Nigerians and called for a clear policy direction.
In his New Year message on Sunday, December 31, Atiku urged everyone to redouble their efforts to improve the well-being of their families and businesses.
In a statement he personally signed, the former Vice President expressed, “It is with great gratitude to God and a heart full of appreciation that I join other patriots in welcoming Nigerians to the New Year 2024.”
While acknowledging the challenges of the past year, Atiku highlighted the lessons learned as crucial for preparing for the future.
He expressed his belief that the Almighty created time and seasons for people to take stock of realities and make necessary adjustments.
Addressing the current hardships faced by many families and businesses, Atiku stated, “Certainly, many families and businesses already know the intensity of the trying times that we are currently going through – though we could have taken a completely different pathway had the government been smarter with their policy prescriptions.”
He pointed out the escalating costs of food items, goods, and services, the malfunction in the national economy, and the deteriorating state of national and community security as existential challenges that need to be addressed in the New Year.
Atiku called for a well-thought vision of national planning that places the common people of Nigeria at the center of development.
He emphasized that the government must provide a clear direction for its policy projections and refrain from the current approach of navigating uncertain paths.
