Battle For Edo South: Residents Drag Lucky Imasuen Dirty Over Purported Endorsement By The Benin Palace
Edo State residents are now dragging a former Deputy Governor of the state, Chief Lucky Imaseun, for “allegedly” gloating about the palace’s endorsement of his Edo South Senatorial ambition.
According to respondents, claiming that the Oba’s palace is politicized and has endorsed any candidate is a sacrilege.
“Bragging about a royal endorsement is considered as an abnormality, regardless of the political contest, because the palace has made it plain from the start that it will never be politicized and will always lend its prayers to anybody seeking its blessings.”-A newspaper vendor was quoted as stating in response to Lucky Imasuen’s alleged endorsement.
According to reports from Benin City, the administrative capital of Edo South, Chief Lucky Imasuen, an APC chieftain and state party leader, has entered the Senate contest for the senatorial district.
It is “alleged” that the former Deputy Governor has flown the kite on several occasions that his mandate is on the Royal Palace blessings hence his hasty entrance to the race few days before the APC party primaries.
Residents of Edo, who are extremely cultural and devoted to their traditional leadership, have urged politicians in the state not to use the sacred name of the Oba of Benin in their political campaigns, claiming that the Oba is a father to all and cannot lord it over any contender.
” We heard stories of the former Deputy Governor’s alleged endorsement, but we know that can never be true because His Royal Majesty has stated numerous times that he is a father to all.
We request that politicians refrain from involving the Royal Palace in their local campaigns; this should not be difficult to comprehend.” A youth leader in the state was quoted as saying.
When our reporters contacted the palace about the rumors, our sources who requested anonymity indicated the report should be ignored in its entirety because nothing of the sort happened.
